I have a G4 iMac and the screen has recently just gone black and will not brighten.

I have attached another monitor and the monitor and the computer work fine.

I shone a flashlight on the LCD main screen and nothing shows up.

I have tried shutting down the computer, unplugging it and restarting. It did not make a difference.

Do you have any ideas what the problem might be? Is there a solution?

Welcome to MacOSX.com!

Sounds like bad news, sorry to say. The backlight on your LCD has likely burnt out. This happens with LCDs after awhile. You might try searching Google for "iMac G4 backlight" or something like that to look for a third party that will help you replace it. Maybe you can even do it yourself. I'm not sure.

You can also contact Apple or an Apple certified repair facility, but you'll likely pay dearly for the repair.

I'm typing right now on my iMac G4. I LoooooooovE the LCD, and I hope my backlight won't die for a long time. Knock on wood!

Good luck!

Doug
