I have tried to read a number of things about this problem but can't quite get the right key words to find a thread. Here is the problem. I can use a local number fine and connect to my ISP--have done so successfully for years. (Internal 56 k modem v 92) No problems. I often travel and like to use dial-up from hotels and the protocol works fine with long distance, commas, credit car etc, but when the last digit of the credit card is dialed by the modem it drops the connection with a loud click.
I have tried all sorts of remedies. I can sit at home and use the local number, then try to use the long distance protocol and it does the same thing. I have tried ampersands, commas, different speeds, different modem configurtions (v34 etc) --it still does the same thing.
My older 9.2 laptop Mac used to work fine using this protocol and now I am having the smae problems there as well. Doesn't seem to matter where it is anymore--at the end of the dial, a loud click and nothing. Eventually a message says the modem isn't detecting anything.....
