titanium book slept while i did. battery dead upon /dreamstate. would not boot correctly when recharged. freezes at random intervals. was able to copy out my docs, etc on random boots, so data is recovered. sometimes it will not boot. sometimes i get a grey/white pixel screen

replaced HD with new 120GB. i have gotten to the install, but not thru, of 10.4.6 before freezing or returning message that install failed.

pressed grey button on back with (play arrow) - PRAM? reset?

it powers up now, using external fire DVD to run install, stuck on white/grey apple screen with rotating circle of dashes for 30 minutes. turning off to attempt again. read something about typing reset-nvram (hit ENTER), then reset-all (hit ENTER) when the grey/white pixel screen (open firmware screen?). will possibly attempt if it takes me to screen again.

suggestions? thanks in advance. my G4 and i have had many good times. it will even run final scratch 2 with 2 turntables input/output and search, even though minimum req is 550mhz.

tag.

sometimes it gives black screen with 1/4 size white box centered, no text. sometimes, mouse and keyboard freezes. once, clicking stopped while mouse still moved, then mouse froze. still stuck on the load screen like last time. have not gotten grey/white screen lately.

if i boot to target disc mode and use my mac mini to do the osx install - would this work?

tried (option) on boot instead of (C). it loaded to install screen, got to about 17%, before you select customize or standard, and stopped at 'Installing Base System Part I' and said, again, to try installing again. previously, before pram reset, i was able to deselect print drivers and continue for a minute. HELP~

i let it sit there on frozen install screen. a message appeared.

System Failure: cpu=0 code=00000009 (invalid PMAP)
latest crash info for cpu

Unresolved Kernel Trap (cpu

last line kept repeating every few minutes.

thanks to everyone for posting here! (/sarcasm)

i got my install to werk. so far no crashes. to complete, i set tha laptop in targert disc mode and plugged in to my g4 mac mini 1.4ghz. it seemed to pause at that same 16-17% point, but chugged on. in my haste, i did not do a custom install, so if anyone needs to use my laptop in chinese, it is already ready already. ;-)

i highly recommend this when installing OSX to an old mac laptop. use your other mac and it will go uber-fast. tha estimated time was way off. it took ~10 minutes, but estimated around 40.

i will update here should anything go wrong. anyone who knows more about tha previous question, 'read something about typing reset-nvram (hit ENTER), then reset-all (hit ENTER) when the grey/white pixel screen (open firmware screen?).'????

as an afterthought: it is not showing my battery % yet. does it learn this over time?
