Hello. I'm new to the APPLE world. I am a computer science student who knows a LOT about computers... Mostly PC's! My friends Powerbook G4 has crashed on him and I offered to fix it but there are a few things I don't know that are preventing me from fixing it.

I have the annoying 'Question mark flashing on the folder at boot' problem. I think I have to insert the OS X disk to repair the file system... However i do not know what version he has running on his computer. He does not know either NOR does he have the disk. Is there a way to find out??? So I can download it and get to fixing this thing? Any other advice is greatly appreciated as well. Thank you.

When starting up the computer, hold down alt (option) key. You should see a list of all the bootable systems available.

Okay I tried that. I hold option and I'm presented with a screen that shows a CIRCULAR arrow on the left and another button on the right that just shows an arrow pointing to the right...

I Click on both and nothing happens......

There are no available bootup sources on the Powerbook. You can boot the PowerBook up in Target Disk Mode and see the system/boot up drive that way (assuming the hard drive is operational, which is questionable).
