It plays Fast and the Furious fine. Then I try Not Another Teen Movie or Finding Nemo and it reads the discs for 30-45 minutes and then ejects it.

Any ideas?

My PC runs all the DVD's fine. They are all RETAIL copies. Nothing burned or anything. Friend brought the latter two over last night and I couldn't get them to play!

i highly doubt its the dvd's... my friend just bought finding nemo 2 days ago.... the fast and the furious dvd is like 2-3 years old..

I've seen this issue on Pcs and sometimes it's the software that causes the dvds to not play. Maybe it's Apples DVD software? It could be hardware...but i'd doubt that very much...since the drive seems to read some dvds just fine as you said.

For similar reasons that our DVD player refuses to recognize burned CD's, it may be that the drive is simply too old for newer DVD's, which may have updated methods of encoding data.

Did you check for Firmware updates? Apple release DVD firmware for some G4 machines.

Do you have the latest version of iMovie? I believe 3.0.3 is the latest for Jaguar.

I have Powerbook G4 1 GHz. The firmware updates are for the 500-600mhz models. Don't see anything else for my computer. I have the latest iMovie/DVD Player.

Oh well I'll just have to use my PC to watch DVD's from now on.

no the problem is the DVD won't stay in the drive... it reads it for 30 seconds.. spins up and down a few times and ejects

Get a CD/DVD drive cleaning kit and try that out. I don't think it's and Firmware/iMovie/muffin problem. Just a dirty lens.

I believe you can pick up a cleaning kit from somewhere like CompUSA, Best Buy or Radio Shack... Call around and see what you can find. I know there's something out there that can clean your drive out.

Try holding down Command-Option-i and see if the disc will mount then. That key combo will mount it as an ISO 9660 disc rather than an UDF disc.

When I hit COMMAND-Option-i... get info comes up? Am I doing something wrong... I got it to work ONCE earlier.. but I was button mashing..
