Hey everyone it's my first time posting,

I have a Dual 450 G4, and recently the date and time had been resetting.. I thought nothing of it, until one day the G4 failed to power up when I depressed the on button.

I called Apple Support, and the tech had me do the standard things: open it up, depress the lil' button beside the battery, switch outlets, try different power cords, etc. When it became clear that none of his suggestions helped, I ended up taking it to an Apple certified tech. He couldn't find anything wrong, it powered up fine at the store. I had him replace the battery, and took it home, and was able to startup fine.

Then, the date and time reset again, a couple of times, and finally, yesterday, the computer again failed to startup... any hints? I appreciate any help!

thanks

i'd check out the powersupply on the machine. It could be a power issue or possibly a grounding issue. Since it doesn't happen all the time and you replaced the battery, it's obvioulsy not that. I'd also consider a possible motherboard problem.

I'd take it back to that tech and have him do a hardware check.

In the meantime, do you have it plugged into a surger or power strip?

I heard from a tech recently that power in different cities, and even in different areas of a city can be "dirtier" than others--meaning that the voltage fluctuates enough to cause problems to our macs that need a consistent power source. You might test a power back up supply at your home (see if someone will let you borrow one before you buy, or just pick one up for $150) and see if that fixes your problem. Whenever you get the chance, use your hardware test cd that came with your computer to find out if you have a hardware issue. My new iMac G4 had a bad logic board which made it impossible for me to reboot my computer. It was fixed for free and I was able to help them by doing the diagnostic myself.

Hope some of this helps.

I do, and the problem maybe related to that, and the fact my house is equipped only with two-prong outlets... I have a 3-2 converter hooked up to a surge, and plug into that...

I'll probably swing by the Apple Store as well... thanks for the help!
