I have a Power Mac G4 gigabit ethernet dual 500 model(OS 10.3.9)that has been a great machine. Recently, It will not turn on. No response at all. No lights no fan, no power!!

Here is what I've tried:

- Checked power cable and outlet (they are fine)
- Reset PMU (no dice)
- Took out and put back battery (nope)
- Took out all PCI cards (except monitor card)
- unplugged and replugged all internal power connectors
- purchased new power supply on ebay and installed
(repeated above, no joy)
- unplugged and replugged front panel (power switch board)

How do I test the power supply to make sure I didn't buy a dud on ebay? Any other suggestions?

Maybe you need to get a new PMU battery for it? Some Macs won't start if the PMU battery is dead. This happened to me with an old StarMax 4000 Mac clone from Motorola. While the battery lasted a long time, it eventually died and I thought it was the PSU. Then I remembered the issue with the PMU battery. So give that a try and see if it works once you put the new working battery in.

Have you tried with a different power cable?

Also, have you tried leaving it unplugged for about 10 seconds, hitting the PMU button on the motherboard (DO THIS ONLY ONCE! MORE THAN ONCE CAN DAMAGE THE MOTHERBOARD!), and then turning it on?

Hopefully it's not a dud. :(

Personally, it sounds like you have a very large paperweight on your hands. However, don't give up the ship (or the Mac :p). Someone else might have some other ideas on this issue, and hopefully one that will work.

RacerX, if you're lurking the forum, any thoughts?
