G5 imac not booting ...

My imac G5 is having some problems booting.

Its running panther, and sometimes take longer than usual to boot , sometimes up to 5 mins, and then sometimes doesnt boot at all, get to the grey screen and doesnt go any further. Then after a couple of mins the fans come on full, and stay on .... until i reset it. Sometimes it takes 3-4 resets before it will restart. Its a pain , anyone have this problem or know of a fix? (other than backing up everything) which i do almost daily :p

Insert disk 1 of your install disk & re-boot whilst holding down the C key. You will then get a Mac OSX screen up & will be able to select disk utility from the menu. Repair permissions and you might want to also try verifying the disk to make sure that that is OK too ....
