Gateway releases new notebooks... looks close to Apple's designs!

Somewhere... dunno though
The PC maker on Monday launched three new notebooks and a desktop with a new, curvy metallic look. The new machines are largely platinum in color, reminiscent of Apple's silvery Titanium PowerBook, but also use graphite black accents.

Apple should put trademarks and other sort of design patents on their machines so people can't even try to copy!

Well the colour is similar but thats were all similarities end!!!

To start with they look very thick. Then there is the problem with all the pc laptops all the ports arenot covered this is something i really hate.

Do manufacturers actually think it is nice if the laptop ports are not covered. I find it discusting!!!

:D

Erhm... Apart from the colour this isn't really a rip-off. And only because they chose to move away from black and/or gray, you can't really say that they've looked at the Ti- and iBooks for too long. No rip off, not really beautiful design, thread just died.

well, the form's definitely different (did you see the margins of the design?) and the 'function' is a 'portable computer', and i guess by those definitions those notebooks are no apple copycats, only the color is similar (on a jpeg or gif in the internet only, real world comparisons have not been made yet). and it's a gateway notebook for chrissakes, so what do we care? there are notebooks from ASUS that *really* copy the design of the Ti. It's darker, but the margins around the console/keyboard are very, very(!) similar, aren't they? Here's some pics:

I wouldn't worry about the design, guys....

It'll look like crap when it has the Windows desktop and Luna on it. ;)

You want to patent the color grey? Apple hasn't done anything remarkable with the tiBook. I don't see what's wrong with the gateway machine.

BTW, IBM has a titanium machine too. I'm not sure if it came out before Apple's but it was close enough that it can't be a copy.

No patent, prior art exists.

yeh, but i think the ASUS notebook would make one of the better linux systems, eh? not that i wanna switch platforms, but for a sysadmin with style, this could be one of the better ones. one drawback seems to be battery life, though. (2-3 hours just isn't enough...)
