Getting harddrive replaced under warranty is a pita

My G5 has two 250GB drives in it plus I have an external 120GB firewire drive. The 250GB drive that came with it from apple has gone bad (already). I let a surface scan run last night and it found 753 bad blocks and it didnt even get over halfway.

So in order for me to get the drive replaced under waranty, I have to bring the whole G5 to an apple care center and leave it there for 3 days so that they can make sure that the drive is bad.


So now I'm considering just getting the drive replaced by maxtor since they warranty the drive for 3 years.

They may not warrant the drive for the first year if they have some sort of deal with Apple, or they may make you go through Apple the first year. Give them a call;
