getting printer to work

I have an hp deskjet 6122 that has worked in the past. I bought a new hp 2575 photosmart printer to replace it. It does not seem to be compatible with OS 9.2.2. So, I returned to the previous printer, reloaded the drivers from the Cd, picked the printer from 'Chooser' and set it up. I use a USB connection, which is seen in the profiler.
Now, when I try to print from Word, Appleworks or Simpletext, a finder box comes on to say that the finder needs my attention. Once I choose it in the menu, the message is that the file has been moved to the trash and that no printer exists for this spool file.
What is going on?

Office is particularly nasty about printing from Classic. One trick
is to install a LaserWriter 8 driver, then choose "print to file" which
yields a PostScript document that Preview can read and print.

You don't need to have a laserwriter.
