Going Backwards OS X to OS 9.2

Bought a computer at a garage sale that has 10.3.9 on it--with lots of problems. Didn't come with recovery disks. I have OS 9.2 disks and am trying to install that on the machine (I know that's going backwards, but for reasons too long to put here, I need to have a 9.2 machine). Having problems going backward--never wiped a hard drive before. Getting error messages saying 9.2 can't be installed over 10.3.9. Any help would be appreciated!

You should first see if you already have os 9 installed in your machine; it's called classic now. Reboot your machine and hold the option key. That will show you what bootable op systems you have available. If you have OS 9 that means you can either delete your OS X installation (the System folder with the X on it) or just boot up in Classic and make that default. Make sure you have 9.2.2 as this works best with OS X on the same machine.

Your question begs this question, and you alluded to it: Why oh why go back to OS 9? :)

Yep, which exact model of Mac is that? Newer (since 2003) Macs can't be installed a bootable OS 9 on them.
Also is the OS 9 install disc a retail version or did it come with a Mac? What color does it have? Does it mention any Mac model on it?
