Want to know what happens you you tell you use Sarfari in a MSN chat full of Windows users? A chat window full of how much Macs "Suck". Gah, makes me so mad. I did pretty much nothing but they went all defensive when they found out I was a Mac guy. As if I fired the first shot or was bashing them all day. Ah, sometimes after a day like this, it's good to come to a Mac forum and talk about it.

Heh, what were you doing in a MSN chat room? ;) :D

It must have felt at least like coming here with a windows and IE ...

I have a fun job over at Ningc.com as a news poster forum Mod. All the other Mods and Team Members have MSN as our main source of getting fast info to each other....I was in one of those chats.

Hey, tell them you're using Unix and you hacked Safari to run on your Unix box! ;)
(yeah, it's the truth - except for the hacking part! lol) :)

The only thing about is....one of the guys is smart with Computers, mainly Windows and uses Unix. So to him, he knew all about OS X because of that and he can safely say it sucks.. Gah..

Amen! :)

I was seriously considering a cheap Dell laptop... but not having a native *nix terminal WITH a desktop that actually works made me cringe!

I was planning to have XP Pro and Redhat 9 on Dual boot, but that was going to suck!

I came to my senses and am saving up for a 12" PowerBook. :) :) :)

*wish it had FW800, USB2, and a PCMCIA card slot, but I'll make due. :p :)

He can't "safely say it sucks" unless he actually knows something about it. Knowing about Unix and Windows does not make you any kind of authority on Mac.

For those of us who have used Windows and Unix thoroughly, it is easy to appreciate just how good the Mac is. (Trust me on this; I actually know about these things. I work on helpdesk at IBM.)

Smart(???) with computers, mainly with Windows (and using Unix)? That's an oxymoron! ::ha:: ::ha::

I bet that your friend doesn't actually know a $hit about OS X but I'm 100% sure that he thinks he knows everything about it... Most Windows users think so! :p

For Matrix fans (and not only) out there:
"It is different knowing the path and walking the path..." ;)

First things first:
-Macs DO NOT suck!
-Safari kicks IE behind so easy that it is not funny anymore! :D

As for you, it should be better next time instead of having a chat with them, to pay a visit @ www.macosx.com ;) It is almost Windows/Mac-bashing free! And even when someone will decide to start bashing more often than not Admins will kick his/her miserable behind... Believe me! I know! :p :D

Tell them Safari can't suck because otherwise Microsoft wouldn't have shafted Explorer due to increased competition from Apple.

Well none of them addressed Safari. They only talked about how their schools have Macs then how bad they suck and how much they hate them ect ect.

I know for one Safari is superior to IE and imo so is OS X to XP.

Well, if they're comparing Macs from schools, they're probably right. Most schools have old old Macs. Pre PPC in most cases.

'Course, if they're at a school that actually has a new Mac and they still say that, they're just delusional. :D

Well Macs at schools do suck usually just because they're locked up/not set up correctly.

I sit down at a Mac at my school and the dock is on full magnification. Usesless and obstructive, makes the computer hard to use. Then I try to get on the internet, only to find that it's locked by an administrator. Leaves a sour taste in the mouth. I try to save and it says "not here, nope no way." Of course, all of this took 2 time longer because they have a stupid 1-button mouse.

Just imagine if I didn't have a Mac at home that I already loved? If I were objective and then judged Apple's systems based on my experiences at school, I'd hate Apple too.

Even better tell them that you are using Konquorer on Liniux... That is what Safari is based on.

That's because people think that Mac's do not need professional attention to keep running. While that is 99.9% true at home, it is almost never true in a lab or shared user environment.

Those schools should be ashamed.

I think this is similar to Apples store-within-a-store CompUSA experiment. They too did very little to keep this s-w-a-s working. Every time I went to my local CompUSA the mac section was a mess and the machines were non-functional. (Very bad if the goal is to actually sell Macs.) The Mac "professionals" there usually just shruged their shoulders.

Now that Apple has so successfully built their own Apple stores they need to get into the business of running Mac labs at schools. Why let the schools mess it up when Apple can do it right?

I'm truely convinced that Apple's reputation is being dramatically tarnished by their settups at schools. They can do a double-right if they start putting time and effort into maintaining these labs: make people more efficient AND advertising their systems to students by having them work as well as possible.
