ok im guess that is for the video. but what about sound? what do i need to get sound preferably to my sourround sound system. and on my tv the size of the screen is too big. everything is centered to the left and on the macbook i have to move everything to the far right where u cant even see it on the screen just so i can have it centered on the tv. what do i change????? thanks for all your help guys
 
What type of Mac do you have? Most of the current Macs have an audio-out port that has both analog (2-channel) and optical (surround) audio-out.
 
About the screen centering issues: Take a look at the Display preference pane. There are a lot of options. One of them would be to mirror the displays so you see the same on the MacBook's screen and the TV.
