Gotta get a new DVD burner

Vard

Looking for progress
I think I am getting a new DVD burner, as the one in my Quick Silver 2002 is slowly dying. So here it is:

I think I have decided on which burner I want to get. I am pretty sure I am going to go external FireWire and then replace the internal dying drive with a speedy CD burner after Xmas. Anyway, I am interested in your input on whether to go with a drive that supports only -R/-RW ($200-US), similar to my current drive , or go with a drive that supports all formats: -R/-RW & +R/+RW ($270-US).

Is the price difference worth it? I haven't needed +R support up to this point--but maybe I don't know what I am missing, right? ;)

Anyway, shoot some thoughts my way if you get a chance.

Thanks for you input.

well, that was an idea at one point, but I read--I think in a post here--that they don't fit into a lot of macs. Got any info on that?

Thanks again Bob

Should fit in any G4 with no problem. It's the same drive Apple uses. I just put one in a friend's G4 Gigabit Ethernet model.

the only thing you may have to do is remove the front of the drive tray, which is simple, as it should snap right off.

OK then...I may take another look at that. Thanks again for the help.

I don't think there's much point in making DVD+R/RW a priority, as there's little advantage they have over plain DVD-R/RW. Go for the Pioneer.
