Graphics Card upgrade

You can use a graphics card that is 4x AGP compatible. You also need to make sure that it is Mac compatible. Sorry, can't name any specifics off the top of my head.

Stick with the brand-named ATI and nVIDIA cards that support the Macs. Don't even bother with the third-party ATI-based and nVIDIA-based cards...they will not work. Also, don't chance flashing a PC card with Mac firmware. Most of the PC video cards do not have enough memory available to hold the Mac firmware, and flashing them will cause problems.

I have a Mac G4 533MHz PowerPC 768 MB SDRAM
ATY, Rage 128Pro card...what card can I upgrade with??

Hello Cliff2n,

Well, I had a G4/400 AGP Graphics with a Forsa GeForce 6200A 256MB in it.
That graphics card was originally a Windows-only graphics card, but somebody flashed it for me and it worked great under Leopard and Tiger. It fully supported Core Image and Quartz Extreme!

However, I've sold the G4 and bought a new 24" iMac.

Best regards,
Joris

Again, be aware that flashing third-party PC cards for use on a Mac is hit-and-miss. This used to be possible back in the days of 3dfx Voodoo cards because the PC and Mac versions sold were actually the same exact card with different firmware (meaning it had the memory space for each firmware). However, don't expect this to be the case nowadays.

If you take this offer, you're doing so at your own risk.

You're exactly right, that's also why I didn't flash the card myself.

The cards that are available nowadays definitely won't work in PowerMac's with a 2X or 4X AGP slot.
