Greyed out type in Safari

Since switching to a Mac Mini with the Safari browser, I've noticed a lot of the type on web sites has a greyed out look (including some of the type on this web site). Is this because of (a) the browser, (b) the web site designer, (c) my monitor settings, or (d) my dimming eyesight? I don't recall this problem with my Classic Mac running the Icab browser.

Classic Mac: white, light grey, grey, dark grey, black.
Mac Mini: 32 million colors; not all of which are web safe.

Technically, the answer is:

(e) All of the above

but, mainly it is (b).

And yes, not all are pleased with the washed out grey print.
