Whew. I'm glad I'm writing this in retrospect and after I found a solution to my problem. Otherwise, I wouldn't be this calm...
I hadn't used my iPod Nano in a couple days because the battery was really low and I'd just ordered a charger/power adapter (yes, I can charge it through my computer--and that's what I'd been doing--but it's a pain in the butt because my iPod and computer don't always need charging at the same time). So, anyway, I was waiting for my iPod charger to arrive in the mail, which it did today. So, I pick up my iPod, getting ready to plug it in and test out the new charger, and the backlight comes on ... and it just ... completely freezes up. I'm pressing ALL the buttons. Nothing! The backlight wouldn't even turn off! It just stayed frozen like that. Wouldn't even turn off. Zip. Zilch. So, I plug it into my computer (I don't know why, I guess it was just instinctive) to see what would happen, and my computer/iTunes didn't even acknowledge my iPod. After a slight loss of control and panicking, I went to my bedroom closet to retrieve the teeny, tiny user's guide that comes with the Nano. It doesn't tell you much, but it told me enough to get it working right again. Says right there in the guide: "If iPod is not responding, simply press and hold the Menu and center buttons at the same time for about six seconds, until you see the Apple logo." Man, let me tell ya, I've NEVER been so happy to see that little Apple! Anyway, after I did that, all was fine and well. I didn't lose any information, and when I plugged it back into my computer, my iTunes recongized/updated it. Oh, and the new charger/power adapter works fine.
Apparently, iPods sometimes freeze and don't respond and need resetting. This is my first iPod, so it was a new and traumatic experience for me. Anyone else ever had this happen to their iPod?
