Hard disk for G4 questions...

Re: member
I've got a G4 400 which is free to turn into a server (web and file). It has a 10gb hard drive, but I will upgrade with a second internal drive (60gb IBM).

My question is, is this a decent idea (will I have any problems)? And, can I also add a third internal drive?

Thanks;)

My tip:

Buy a PCI ATA 133 Card and attatch a fast (at least 7200rpm) HardDisk! With one of those cards you can connect up to 4 Drives! The best sollution is to get a ACARD RAID Card. Those cards kick butt! :D You will get about 50MB/s!!! :) :) :) :) :)

Yes, I came across these Acard's. But, I was looking at the none Raid version, can I link several drives up with this?

i'm not sure about the quicksilver, but on the original g4 there is a spare slot on the same bus as the optical drive depending if you have a zip or not.

An Acard will boost the Drive speed capacity from a rubbish ATA/33 in my G4 466 (or was it ATA/66), right upto an ATA/133! Niccceee!:D

Yeah, thats right!

Thats why I told you! I knew that you can connect another drive at the local connector. But my tip still is to buy the ACARD!

BTW currently you have ATA66 :) ;)

That's no point as long as you don't plan putting a 4 disk RAID in your G4 or something. The internal ATA/66 bus is more than capable of handling 2 HDs. The HDs aren't capable of exceeding that, anyway.

Well, it's your money, though
