Hard Disk Space

I am currently operating a Mac dual 1GHz running 10.4.11. I have a 80 GB hard drive. I am getting 'lack of space' warnings that say there is only less than a MB of hard drive available yet when I run through system information my total useage is under 40 GB and I have no partitions. I can't even save a Word document. Can anyone help me?

Hi David, sounds like your hard drive has under 1 GB empty space. Empty the trash, and save at least 6 GB documents and files away to a DVD or external hard drive. Mac OS X needs at least 15 % free space irregardless of hard drive size to work fluently.

In Finder, select your hard drive, right click (control-click) > Info > will show how much space you have free exactly. Aim at keeping 15 % free.
