Hey guys I need help figuring out if I need a new drive on my 2001 ibook 600mhz dual USB

the drive won't mount anymore when I run disk utility I get error
"the underlying task reportedly failure on exit -9972 "
volume failed verification

now I have diskwarrior and also it's not able to mount the drive it does see it in the list but it is unable to perform it's duties because of an error trying to access the disk

id this drive dead? I can hear it spinning when it tries to mount

I found many instances on this forum for the same error but seems that most people where able to fix it using DW

thanks

BTW I am running my system and DW from my 2g Ipod :)

Verify that the cables are attached.. otherwise, it's likely that a hardware failure is causing an I/O error, and you'll need a new drive.

I have just recently had the same problem with my desktop if you need to try and fix it the only software that i have found that can actually recover the files on the hard drive is techtool pro 4
I am actually doing exactly that as we speak :)

Well thank god the files where all backed up , I did install the new drive
