Ever since the 10.6.7 update came out, the hard drive in my Macbook Pro will randomly start spinning even though the laptop will have been sitting idle for a while. I've checked Activity Monitor during a couple of these random "hard drive moments" and found that the reads in/sec were extremely high, sometimes as high as 2300/sec.
I've tried googling the issue to no avail. The Macbook has become extremely sluggish and largely unresponsive - applications like Safari are starting to crash for no apparent reason.
Has anyone else dealt with something like this? I thought it might be because of disk fragmentation, so I defragmented the disk using iDefrag, but this doesn't seem to have helped much at all. I don't really get what the disk is reading when there is nothing going on, and these periods of high disk reading can sometimes last 10 - 15 minutes.
Any help is appreciated.
