HELP ! Ersae external disk - emergency

I have done the biggest mistake I could have done.
I have received a new firewire external hard drive... and I have erased.. the old one with hours and hours of video edited... it's a big catastroph for me, I had almost finish a DVD... and I have lost everything !

I have not touch anything else, I have just done erase, I hope there is a way to rescue everything....

thanks to contact me also by email, i will check this forum as much as possible.

I'm using mac os x panther, the fire wire is a classic one, and i have use disk utilities.
 
If the procedure took quite some time, it was a clean format and the data should be hardly recovered. I know it from the peecee world. You have the option to do a quick and a clean format. Quick format will just zero the block-indices. The blocks will still keep the data. Here you will have a way to recover your data. But once the whole disc was zeroed it will be lost.
Anyway google for disc recovery services, if the data is worth to pay 100 bucks or so.
