Help: iPod problems. what would you do?

I am the law!
My 10GB touch wheel iPod just went to hell in a hand basket. First, two weeks ago the firewire port stopped working on it. It will charge but it won't mount or show up in the apple system profiler when I plug it in.
Then 2 days ago I only got 30 minutes out of the battery (it was working great before that).

Its about a year and a half old so its no longer under warranty.

So I've thought about my options...

1) pay apple 100 bucks (maybe more if they still charge 30 for shipping?) for the battery replacement plan and hope that they actually send me a whole new iPod instead of just changing the battery in this one and sending it back.

2) sell on ebay as is. no idea how much i'd get.

3) do #1 & #2 then buy a new 15GB iPod for 249 +tax with student discount.

4) set it on fire and never buy another music player

if you have apple swap out the battery for $100 they actually send you a factory refurbished iPod, not the one you sent in.

if yours is as jacked as it sounds, sounds like a good deal to me!

The student discount is 270 plus tax, not 249.

You're only supposed to get about 18 months out of the battery.

I'd get a refurb.
