Help me, please ...

I know that this isn't the right place to talk about my problem, but I don't know where I can ask for solving it.
My cousin sent me the movie of his wedding in avi (divx) format as he hasn't a DVD-R.
The problem is that the movie has two big black strips at the top and bottom, so if I put it in fullscreen mode, the video is small, 'cause the black strips take up a lot of space on the screen.
Is there an app for Mac OS X to delete these strips without using a PC?

Thank you.

The movie is recorded is a wider aspect ratio than your screen, so it enlarges to it's maximum width and then there's space left over for the height so there's just black there. That isn't actually part of the movie. If you enlarge the movie to fit the aspect ratio of your monitor you'll cut off content from the left and right edges of the movie.

Below is a crude graphic to demonstrate what I mean by the different sizes of aspect ratios. These are the two standards for TVs (4:3 or 16:9) right now and most computers are at a 4:3 or very close to it (TiBooks are 3:2).

This is actually the best place for your post. DC is for all graphics and mutimedia manipulation/creation topics. Movies and editing fall in there.

No, no, u didn't understand ... or i explained in a bad way.
I know 4:3 and 16:9 ratios, my movie has the two black strips as a part of the file. I see them also when i run it not in fullscreen mode.
I know that on PC there are some apps that can delete the strips, but on mac i don't know where to search for.

QuickTime Pro allows you to edit movies, crop them , etc., but it costs $30 for a Pro key. There are a slew of other video editors around, most of which are expensive, but if you search VersionTracker, as suggested, for "video" you might find some shareware capable of the task.

Most people I talk with are at a loss when it comes to the whole aspect ratio and those black bars...I was assuming that the case here. My bad.

I'd have to say go with QT pro, as most other programs are quite expensive compared to QT. Esp. if you plan on doing this alot and you think it might be a problem again.

Oke thanks, I have QT pro, but I don't know how to delete this strips on a divx avi file.
Could anyone explain?
