Help! No slide show in iPhoto 4

Installed iPhoto 4 and now Slide show doesn't work, just displays a blank, black screen. Transition animations look fine in settings panel, everything else seems okay, but the whole point of the app is really to create slide shows. The earlier version of iPhoto had always worked fine for me, on my BondiMac + iForce 500MHz G4, 512MB RAM, 6MB VRAM. Apple Support site shows others having the same problem, but no one has posted a solution. Has any body here had the same experience or know of a fix?

Seems to be working fine for me, but I had to set screen to Millions of colors and choose music before it would work.

My display is set to millions of colors; iPhoto has no problem playing the sample music included there in but does not see my iTunes Music Library.
