Help, please: Java update caused printing problems

Howdy...

I tried searching for answers to this issue on here (and many other places) but cannot find anything that applies. We're having a strange issue with a Mac G5 running OSX 10.4.7 after doing the latest Java update.

I went to the user's computer to install some software (appears to be unrelated as the same behavior exists on another computer without the software)...when I logged in as administrator, it said there were updates available and asked if I would like to install them. One of them was for Java. I allowed it to install the updates and restart. Then, I installed the software I'd originally intended to install.

When the user logged in again, she began having trouble printing -- but only from Groupwise. The behavior is that it will print to the correct printer if using Word, for instance, but if trying to print an email in Groupwise, it will only ever print to whatever the first printer chosen after login regardless of what the default was set to AND regardless of if you (in Groupwise) tell it to print to another printer. It will only ever print to one printer in Groupwise.

Example:
1. User logs in and prints to printer "A" with Groupwise.
2. Later, they want to print from Groupwise to printer "B" and after selecting printer "B" in the print dialogue box, it still prints to printer "A".

I hope that makes sense. Has anyone else seen this before? Any hints or advice are much appreciated. This has only occurred for folks after applying the most recent Java update and Groupwise uses Java to print on the Mac.

Thanks!

I am having the same problem, but didn't connect it to a java update until you pointed it out. After printing to a pdf the printer was locked to pdf. I removed the pdf printer and then Groupwise refused to print anything.

/Applications/Utilities/Java/J2SE 5.0/Java Preferences.app

You can set the preferred java version back to the previous version.

Don't know if it'll help, but there it is.
