I have a powerbook g4 and it turns on start to load operating system (os x) the blue loading bar fills then says starting but that is where it stops... But it doesn't turn off the bar is full and it says starting. I left it on one day when I went to work and came home it was dead. Is that why it won't work and what can I do to get it to work

Did you have the power adapter plugged in?
With power adapter plugged into the pb (and a good working outlet) use the OS X disk to start it up. It has to be the OS X that matches what is installed on the pb (i.e. if you have 10.3.5 installed, use the 10.3 disk). And immediately hold down the C key after inserting the disk. Depending on which version of OS X you have - you may need to select your language first, then go to the menu and select Disk Utility.
Run Disk Utility and see what it comes up with.
