I have OS X running on my PowerBook G4. I cannot access the computer after startup. The screen shows: "panic: We are hanging here"; and the screen just freezes.

The Darwin Kernel is Version 5.3; this was also shown on the screen.

Any idea how I can retrieve information from my computer?

Anything, anything?

Thank you in advance!

Try booting off of your OS 9 CD and running Disk First Aid on the Internal HD. Let us know what happens.

Also, please only post in the appropreate forum. We realize that this is important to you, but double posting will only earn you a bad image.

Hey, buddy, if you have trouble booting from a system/repair disc, and you have another firewire capable Mac, do this (it worked for me when mine "died"):

1. Start up your PowerBook and hold down the "T" key until you see a "FireWire" logo on the screen.

2. Plug a FireWire cable into your PowerBook, then into your other Mac

3. The PowerBook's hard disk should show up on the desktop of the other Mac

4. Run Disk First Aid on the PowerBook hard disk

hope this helps

Thanks for your idea. Unfortunately, the program does not recognize the hard drive.

More coming?

My TiBook is a consider hardware, right?

Thanks adambyte! I will try it once I landed on a used B&W G3 this week. Do I have to run OS X? Or can I get away with 9?

Thanks guys!

Keep them coming!
