help with mail 4.3

i'm switching to gmail and want to save all my mails from my old email account.

i never used mail.app before so i set up an account and saved all the mails from my inbox to an on-my-mac mailbox. how can i do the same now with my other folders, esp. my sent mail folder?

i read somewhere that i can't do that with pop, is that true?
