for the past 4 months I have accessed my schools network using my powerbook g4... i just plugged it in to the lan and it worked... i only was able to use the internet and not the actual school network but thats all i needed... well today it just stopped working. I cant access the internet from my computer anymore, i'm typing this from my roomates computer. I plugged my computer into his lan jack and it still didnt work. The school isnt going to help because the IT guy things macs are evil and wont even talk to me because I have one. Does anyone have any suggestions? I didnt change any preferences. One thing to note is that this first started happening while I was downloading a file... the file was downloading, but I couldn't access the internet or get on AIM. Once the file was done nothing worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I have no idea what to do......

i was able to send an e-mail from my school e-mail account to my personal e-mail account.... and acces it from another computer... this is so damned strange

Same thing exactly happend to me. My ethernet port has stopped working!!!!!

I have been on the phone with apple support and they cannot help as far as i am concerned. They are telling me to do things i have already tried.....

My specs are:

PB G4 500MHz,512Mb,OS x.1.1 what are yours...

my specs are exactly the same... but my ethernet port didn't stop working...

ive been fooling around with things, and it seems I have some sort of DNS problem... if i put in ip addresses it works fine... but typing www.apple.com doesn't work... how the HECK do i fix this? theres no problem with the DNS server on my roommates computer... STRANGE

Well i have the wxact same problem whilst the normal DNS should be x.x.x.0 on the PB it is x.x.0.0 how do i change that. Do you use DHCP?

If it goes with the IP numbers only,
your connection, ethernet and OS should be up and running correctly...
The problem resides in the DNS name resolving, owing to misconfiguration and/or the settings of the lan which you connect to.
Try to add up to ten new nameservers :
look at which ones the other PC on the LAN use and add some others you may find on the net;

Hoping it's worth, greetings.
