ok i was given an apple eMac G4 and i accidentally deleted system profiler, i wasn't given a cd/dvd with the mac and i have updated my software to 10.4.11, any suggestions on what i could do? also i have tried to open system preferences which would not open either, but i guessed this was because of system profiler. please help.

Many thanks.

First off make sure you truly deleted it,check the trash ! Second if it is truly gone, then you'll have beg, borrow, or buy a OSX 10.4 install DVD and reinstall. But if you have a external disk that you've backed up your OSX install to you can copy it back to you internal disk.

ok, well i have a friend of mine who was given the same machine, would i be able to put it onto an external disk from his system, also i am now getting the blue screen when i log in as if the desktop is there but no icons, any suggestions? much appreciated.

Use a program such as Super Duper, make a full bootable copy of his OSX install. Once you've done that, boot your machine off of the external drive. Next copy over the System Preferences folder to your drive. Try and reboot your machine on its internal drive. If it boots and everything is ok your in the clear ! If it doesn't you'll have to clone the external drive over to your powerbook. You can find SuperDuper at any good Mac download site such as MacUpdate.
Good Luck!
