Holding down "\" button

Hey, I've just come across problem and I could use some direction.

Earlier today I tried to hook up a Yamaha Keyboard to my imac G5 using an Edirol USBMIDI connector. I opened up Finale and tried to do the midi auto-setup and I don't know what happened after that, but things went bonkers. Now my computer acts as if someone is holding down the "\" button, typing it as fast as possible.

I've tried unplugging the keyboard and it still keeps typing.

I've tried restarting and it still keeps typing.

I've tried booting from the system disk and running disk utility or DiskWarrior, but apparently it's typing "\" during the startup and doesn't recognize my holding down "C" to boot from cd.

I can boot it into single user mode, but I'm not sure of what to do from there.

Has anyone seen anything like this and could point me in the right direction?

Have you checked that the key is not actually stuck down? I've had something similar happen when I dropped a small piece of rubbish into the keyboard without noticing it at the time.
