Hi,
I have an iMac 20" running OSX 10.5.8, and the machine is less than 2 years old. I seem to have a problem with the hot keys (F1 to F4), the screen grab (cmd+shift+3) and the application swapper (cmd+tab).
All of these things work for a short period when I start the Mac up in a morning, or when I've rebooted. But at some point they all stop working - I can't work out why. It just suddenly happens.
Nothing I do seems to be able to cure it. I've been into System Preferences and ticked 'Use all F1, F2 keys as standard function keys', which didn't help. I've then gone back in and unticked it. Again, it doesn't help - nothing cures it except a reboot.
I noticed it started happening after I did the update to 10.5.8 - I haven't dared do any further updates since then for fear it will break something else!
Does anyone else have this problem and know how to cure it (without a reboot)?
Incidentally, at the same time all this started happening, I began to experience problems shutting down my Mac. Going to Apple -> Shut down often results in a message coming up saying 'Logout timed out because (Application) failed to close'. I've checked in the system monitor, and the app it mentions isn't even running! The only way to shut down the Mac then is to press and hold the power button. Not good!
I don't know if these problems are related, but they are very annoying.
My last resort will be to do a full format and re-install...! Obviously don't want to do this on a 2-year old machine as I have lots of applications and work on it. But at the moment, it's more annoying than a Windows PC!
If anyone can help, I'd be really grateful.
