How do fonts work in X?

Howdy
I'm trying to get the font 'meta plus' to work in Photoshop. So i drug it from the font folder of 9 into the font folder (in systems are and user area) but i still cant get the fonts to show up in Photoshop 7. What am i doing wrong?

If the fonts are in a folder, inside the "Fonts" folder it may not work. I always have to put the font files directly in the fonts folder.

Also there is a Fonts folder inside "Library" Volume's initial level. I think that's where you typically want to put them.
 
I moved what i wanted into font folder and they won't work. Fonts worked in 9 not in X. Something is wrong in Flash MX to. It keeps saying it cant find fonts. When i just created it yesterday on the same machine. Sometimes restarting the program works. I so dont understand. Geez.

I have font problems with Flash also. A really annoying one is that some show up in the font list as "CB Univers Condensed Bold" instead of just "Univers Condensed Bold." It gets thrown into a completely different part of the list. Take another look the fonts may be there.
