How do I set up a modem router with Ethernet

I have an adsl Annexe-A modem router. I am trying to configure it with my Mac so I can use it with my PS2 for online gaming. The manual tells me to connect to the modem through a web brower, using the modem's internal IP address. I got there once, but now I can't get into it again.

Also, I can't seem to configure it for my ISP, and they don't provide support for Macs or this modem/router. Neither does the shop I bought it from. Neither does Playstation. This is so frustrating. Can any of you help.

I guess I need to do something by configuring the Network in system preferences, but I'm totally lost.

I am not familiar with your modem router, but there are few general points you should check:
1. Are your network settings on the mac set to automatic?
2. When you open the terminal, do you get a clear transfer and feedback with the command: ping ip.of.the.router?
3. If nothing seems to work and your router did work fine before then look for a reset button on the router.

Additionally you should tell us what mac you are using and how your mac is connected to the router and which software you have on your mac (os).

Thanks for the feedback.

I'm using an i-Mac (the one that looks like a desklamp, with the dome-shaped hard drive), running OSX.2. The modem is connected with an ethernet cable to a Lan socket. The out line is an ADSL which goes directly to the filter connected to the telephone line.

You mention a terminal. I don't see a terminal window. There appears to be one or two ways to connect to the modem/router. One is to use the Internet connect software (which is what I use for connecting with my usual Broadband modem), or through software using a web browser and an IP address. Neither of these work. The internet connect software asks for specific settings, but I can't seem to get these right, even when set to auto. And the IP address no longer works.

And how do I set all the network settings to automatic?

Ok, here a short instruction:
1. reset the router. The button should be labeled otherwise check the manual. If you can't find any such option then simply pull the electricity plug and leave it for few mins. Then plug it again and all the cables (ethernet cable to the iMac, cable to the phone line and electricity cable)
2. Open System Preferences and click on Network. I am not sure how these settings look at jaguar (10.2), but make sure the major settings are set to automatic and check if all fields where you can type something in are empty. Btw, do you already see the assigned ip address of your iMac?
3. Open the Application folder. Open Utilities and double click the Terminal application. You will see a window with a black background and white text. Let's say the routers ip is 192.168.0.1, then you should type the following command: ping 192.168.0.1
Do the ping packages reach the router? If yes, simply open your browser and type the ip address of your router and you should be able to enter the webinterface and setup the ISP data.
Good luck!
