How do I transfer OS9 files from a hdd to OSX?

Hi,
I've got a disk taken from a dead G3 iMac, which was running OS9 *and* OSX so I have been told.

I have connected the disk to my new Intel iMac and can see lots of files on there but it seems like they are all OSX files. I see some reference to OS9 files but they seem like shortcuts.

How can I see these files on this disk and hopefully copy them off to my iMac for writing to a DVD.

Many thanks

Mike

The files belong their applications, not to the OS. If you can see the files, then just drag them over to your MacOS X hard drive.

Assuming the Mac OS 9 installation was not drastically reorganized, at the root level of the drive, you should see:

"Applications (Mac OS 9)", a folder that contains OS 9 software
"Documents", a folder that would be the default location for storing documents when working in OS 9
"Desktop", a folder that would contain the items that were on the desktop when booted into OS 9 natively.

All of that assumes that the user kept the hard drive organized properly. In OS 9, the user could reorganize just about everything at will, so stuff could really be scattered anywhere.

Hope that helps. I'll be watching this thread in case you have more issues/questions.

01. Perform a right button (''<control>' - with single button mouse) click on the System 9 alias (Windoze - shortcut, Mac - alias) file.
02. If a menu item 'Show Original' exists - the selected file is indeed an alias. Select the 'Show Original' menu item. If a window appears and a file is highlighted - you found the actual (original) file. If no window appears - the original file does not exist.
