How is new iMac w/ games?

Walking No-Fun Ball
Hello,

I'm thinking of getting an iMac in a few months. A big thing for me is how well it will run current and future games. Anyway, how well does the iMac run recent games (such as Wolfenstein)?

Chris

I don't know about Wolfenstein, but it runs Deus Ex and Unreal Tournament BEAUTIFULLY, with NO slowdown whatsoever. I turn all settings to maximum with no problems at all.

It runs Myth III extremely well, as fast or faster than any other top-of-the-line PC (OK, it crashed on the Ultimate Insane Dwarf Killing Spree level (Myth III players know what I mean) since it has around 160 fully textured units in full 3D, but lowering the detail levels a notch helped that.

Summoner works great.

Oni works great (but then again, I'm not surprised)

Haven't tried Alice, but it should be fine.

Get this—STARCRAFT runs REALLY WELL! :) lol

Giants runs amazingly well, with all settings all the way up (WOW)

Quake III is incredible (but then again, it was fine on my old ATI Rage 128, which is why I don't understand why people use it as a benchmarking test... it runs at 100fps on a Pentium 200 with an original Intel Integrated Video card (and yes, I've tried it)...)

And that's about all the games I've tried so far.

Wonderful. Now I know that it really will be a huge step up. My trusty 400 MHz iMac is really aging, and it'll be great to finally have a comp that can actually run a game any newer that UT well :D

Ooooh... I know exactly what that step is like, because someone I know went from a 400-MHz iMac to the LCD one and there really is a big difference.

If you wanna play games, I wouldn´t have gone for the iMac since the video isn´t upgradable, and within 2-3 years you won´t be able to play the latest games. Well, at least not at the highest quality.

I want a 2x1GHz G4 with GeForce4 Titanium and a Cinema HD Display :)

Actually, I really don't care that much. I love my iMac. :)

Games aren't a huge thing for me, but I would like to be able to open any game (for at least a year) and know it'll run on my iMac. Also, it would be great to run OS X a little faster that molasses in January.

You'll do quite well with the iMac, then... especially when it comes to OS X. It's faster (by a long shot) than my dad's G4/400 :)

I'm just about to go from a 333 Biege g3 to a LCD iMac, so the jump should be quite impressive.
