Hi all,

I have a 64mb 500 dual USB ibook and am keen to finally leap up from 9.2.2 to 10.2.
I am getting the extra memory needed (another 256mb) but wanted to check if my 10gig hard drive can cope with 10.2.
I have about 2.5gig left un-used but want to check I won't be overloading things....

Advice appreciated on what sort of performance I should get,
best
Sam

Hard drive space;
For Mac OS X 10.2 or later, 3.0 GB is the recommended minimum. he exact amount required depends on your computer and how you install Mac OS X (default versus custom installation, for example).

with 10.e due out in 4 days you might want to consider going ahead and jumping all the way to the latest and greatest. i have a 10 gb hd that i run os 10.2 off of along iwth 9.2. no problems as long as i keep at least 1.5 gb free. you might want to consider getting a firewire drive or just clearing some space by burning some fo your less used files to cd. if you plan on doing much that requires lots of memory swapping (particlarly with less than 512mb ram) then you definitly might want to look at firewire drives as a solution.

The minimum amount of space you should have available for the installation is 1 GB, and the minimum amount of space you should keep free at all times for OS X to use for swap files, cache files, etc. is 1 GB also. So you might be okay with 2.5 GB, but you're pushing it a bit.

Panther may very well take up much more space, however, or much less space.
