How to access the Internet through a PC from a Mac's dial up connection?

Can somebody tell me what I need to do to get my Windoze Box to access the Internet? I have the Mac and PC connected via ethernet through a Linksys router. I can access the files on the Mac from the Windowze box but I can't get on the Internet. I have assigned the PC an Ip address that is two digits off the Mac's, the same Subnet Mask, and I've tried specifying the router and mac's ip address as the default gateway but neither work. I have also enabled Intenret connection sharing on the iMac.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you can try the following on the PC:

Go START, RUN and type CMD.

then type IPCONFIG and see if it finds your ip range from the Mac. Then if it does not, type ipconfig/renew or it might be ipconfig/release

I think this is supposed to release the ip address range or something. I'm not sure, but it's worth a go I think.

I tried ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew and it received an IP address from the router (2 digits off from the iMac) and the default gateway is the IP address of the router. I have DHCP enabled on the router. Do you think that's causing problmes?

Do you know of anything else to try?

I think what you normally have is the router has a static IP which you set, say 192.168.0.1 and then the mac and the PC to DHCP.

I had the Internet Connection Type on the router set to PPPoE so that may have been what was causing problems. DO I need to set it to Automatic Configuration "DHCP" or Static IP? If Static IP, what do I need to enter for my Subnet Mask, Gateway, DNS, etc.? I tried my AOL Internet IP address and entered the IP that shows up as the Router on my Mac in the Gateway field, then 255.255.255.0 for the Subnet Mask (it's empty on my Mac) but it said the IP and Gateway are not at the same subnet mask.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

you need to set the static IP, like stated before, and having both set to DHCP, It's a configuration issue. The mac should be no prob. Since osx pretty much does everything automatically.
