How to connect to Linux Red Hat

Trying to set up a Red Hat box to self-host. (We had an extra PC laying around, otherwise I'd have gone with OS X).

Can't figure out how to connect to it for file sharing (from a Mac).

Choosing the Finder's Connect to Server (command+K) and entering the Red Hat IP (smb://192.168.1.2) returns this error:

"Could not connect to the server because the name or password is not correct."

We manually set the IP on the Red Hat box to 192.168.1.2

Help!

- Do you have Samba (Windows file sharing) running on the PC?
- If so, try connecting with the username specified in the address, like so:
smb://username@192.168.1.2 or even smb://username:password@192.168.1.2
- Can you PING or FTP to the server? (eg: ftp://192.168.1.2)
