hey,
im only 16 but i am pretty good with macs, i know c and i help administer the machines at my school and currently im working in a boat yard and i would like to get a better job but i dont know what i should do in terms of building up a resume. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreceated.

I'd suggest you find out which of your local community groups (or perhaps your school) can introduce you to a career counsellor. Then, that person can sit you down and go over your resume, application letters, your career goals and so on in great detail and really get things going for you.

Another good idea is to seek out a mentor, when you've pinned down what it is you want to do. Find someone who is doing that dream-job and who is willing to spare an hour a month to chat with you, show you the ropes, and introduce you to a few of the 'players' (I'm pretty sure every industry has players)

Remember that what you are doing is marketing yourself... you sound like a smart and enthusiastic young person, and you want prospective employers to really see that side of you. Be thorough, be polite and confident.

Oh, and don't overlook a trip to the library for getting some information. As well as books about writing applications and resumes, you'll also find plenty of books about finding and chasing that dream career.

Thank you I'll do that, currently I allready have a mentor at school but I'm going to see who he can introduce me to and I am going to sit down with my guidance counselor and see what he has to offer for advice for getting a resume started. You have been quite helpful.
Mike
