Could someone tell me the easiest way for people to access and download a file from a site? What is the best procedure in putting it up? I'll be using Dreamweaver

Well first you will need some webhosting. You can get this for free but it usually contains ads or you can buy some (its not to expensive) once you have signed up for the hosting you will need to use a ftp client (i think dreamweaver might have one built in) to upload it to you hosting account. Then just send the link to everybody you want to download the file :)

When I need to get larger files to clients/provides/etc. at the office, I just drop them in a special subfolder on our server. Could setup a true dropbox via FTP, but the way we're doing it now seems to be the easiest and fastest. Not a good idea if the stuff you're putting up needs to be secured though.

Basically, when something needs to be sent we drop it into a folder called DropBox and then send a link in an e-mail. (http://www.somewhere.com/DropBox/myfile.zip). Works very well with DW...just copy the file to the folder in your DW site folder on your HD, then use the upload feature.

Thanks, mdnky. Then if they want to download direct from the site you just give the file a hyperlink?

So you don't go for a ftp link? I was thinking of graphics files that could be 1 Mb or so

Yup.

For most files they'll download to the appropriate folder on the user's computer with this method. If you're doing images or other types of files which might open in the browser, then either warn them to opposite/ctrl click the link and choose download/save as, or zip/sit them first then give the link to that file.
