how to turn off powerbook built-in screen

Hi,

a friend of mine owns a titanium, of which the screen is broken.
he took it completely off the powebook, so that the machine is even smaller than it was.
he still uses it for performances as a musician.

problem is, when connecting an external screen, the built-in one is still 'seen' by the computer, so half of the desktop is hidden.

how can one make the powebook think the screen is not attached.. if possible at all?

thanks in advance

Go into the mirror mode:
press F7

Yes, that's one solution.
But you more or less spit the videoRAM in half that way...

so, is there a way to let the videocard think the internakl screen is disattached?
Or formulated otherwise:
How to make the computer think the screen is closed?
Because usually that's the way to have only the external screen active when the built-in screen is still there, but closed.

you might try this old knowledge base article (which i now can't find online). It works with by pb, and sounds like it should work with the TiBooks as well
DISCUSSION

To use a PowerBook G4 computer and PowerBook (FireWire) with the display (clamshell) closed and an external monitor connected:

1. Place your PowerBook in sleep mode by closing the display.

2. Connect the power adapter and external monitor.

3. Connect an external Apple USB keyboard and mouse and the PowerBook will wake.

To activate the internal display again, put the PowerBook to sleep and wake it with the display (clamshell) open.

Notes:

1. If you are using your PowerBook with the computer closed, you cannot utilize Video Mirroring. If you have both a VGA and S-video source connected to the PowerBook, it shows an image only on the VGA device.

2. Connecting an external monitor increases the power requirements of the PowerBook. Therefore, you must use the AC adapter whenever the PowerBook is connected to an external monitor. The PowerBook will not wake up if the power adapter is not connected, and if you disconnect the power adapter the computer will go to sleep.

thanks for the reply,
but as i mention in the start of the topic,
the screen has been completely removed from the powerbook,
so there's no way of 'closing the screen of clampshell'...

what i'm looking for, is a way to have the PB think it is closed,
and then use the procedure you mention. :)/)
