HP 5000 printer wont load up

G5 Tower running OS 10.4.11.....printer is a HP 5000 witha jetdirect 600N ethernet card...I am hooking this up for the first time...loaded printer drivers from disk(from buddy with same machine) still won't work...do I need to load something for the card? Not a big computer guy...slow n easy would be good, Thanks

OK. The driver for the HP LaserJet 5000 was already installed on your computer. You need not have installed any extra software. My guess is that you are not using the proper protocol. You may setup your printer as an IP printer using IPP, LPD, or HP Jet Direct. However, you must manually enter the IP address in the Printer Setup Utility dialog box. You may also enable AppleTalk on your computer so that you may communicate with your printer via AppleTalk. Unless you give your printer a fixed IP address, then I recommend the AppleTalk route.

Ok, the make appletalk active box was checked already.......the printer is plugged into a Netgear router hub that another printer and internet is plugged into.......If I manually set the IP address will it affect the other printer? Where do I get the correct IP address...thanks for your help..
