Hi and welcome to the forum.

Assuming that you're running 10.4.x, have you tried setting the paper type from within System Preferences-->Printer & Fax? Just select the printer and click on the Printer Setup button.

Also, if you need the latest drivers for Mac OS X, here's the link to HP's site for the drivers:
