I am having trouble configuring one of these on a network that is being updgraded to os x. when the machines still had 9 on them, the printers that were using jetdirect boxes would just show up in the chooser. now, when i go to print center, they don't show up under apple talk, and i haven't been able to ge them to show up using the ip address (the ip address of the box is the manufacturer default of 192.0.0.192). i also can not telnet into the jetdrict box to change the ip. i tried to telent through terminal both with a machine on the network, then plugged directly into the jetdirect, and both times telnet was unable to find the location. has anybody had similiar problems or been able to setup a printer using an hp jetdirect?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is possible that you need to set the IP address of the JetDirect to something in the same subnet as the rest of your network.

Is this one of those boxes that connects to a USB printer? If so, you will definitely have to use your web browser to configure it as the Mac software HP provides is garbage and doesn't force the settings to "stick"; you have to go through the browser to do this.

(of course, YMMV)

i did that. i don't know how but i was finally able to telnet into it (i tried to do it before i left work friday, wouldn't let me in, for shits and giggls i tried again monday morning and all of a sudden it lets me telnet in). the web interface configuration doesn't support the mac os, so a co-worker brought in his laptop today and we are going to try to configure it that way. but, i did telnet into it and chance the ip and subnet so that it would be in the network as it is setup, and still no dice.
