HP Photosmart 8250 on Windows network

Hopefully someone on here can help me out with this. I have a HP Photosmart 8250 connected to a WinXP machine on my home network and I want to print to it from my iBook. My iBook is running 10.4.7

I can see the printer on the network but i cannot install it. I've run the installer on the printer driver CD but that didn't seem to do anything. When I try to install the printer it isn't listed even though I've run the HP software. Is there a way to manually add it to the list of printers?

I don't understand why this is so difficult on a mac. My problem is I am a windows person and I could do this manually on a winxp machine in seconds but I don't know where to start on a mac. If this was windows I'd just point it to the .inf and it would be done but I don't know what the relating file is on OSX.

It seems like if I could find the right file this would work but I don't know what I am looking for.

I thought everything was supposed to be easier on a mac ;)

Most vendors of USB printers do not supply networkable drivers. To use your printer over the network, you must use MacOS X's built-in CUPS system. Download the CUPS PPD file for the Photosmart 8250. You should also download and install GutenPrint 5.0. It includes documentation.
