.htaccess files

Does anybody how to save a .htaccess file on jaguar. The problem is the . (period)
if you rename a file in a name like .htaccess you get a error message like "filenames with a period are preserved names, try something else" (I hope I translated it right so you understand).

What's the trick to save files like this??

save it as htaccess then open terminal and move the file

eg
%mv htaccess .htaccess
this will rename your file
