Forgive me if this is a familliar refrain here. I don't have time to read all the posts. Arrangement:
hughesnet modem (satellite)--> Airport Express
Airport wireless to:
1 iMac
1 eMac
1 Windows X
For a good long while there was peace in the valley, no access problems, until the user of the iMac decided to try to get better speed by detaching cable from Airport and plugging it into his iMac.
Plug ethernet back into Airport and:
Poof!
eMac & Windows are out of luck. Inasmuch as Windows is impenetrable I can't tell what's going on with it, but eMac says it loud and clear:
169.254.x.x
This is it says a self-assigned IP address that confirms lack of web access. The DHCP is not cooperating. I know there are a few fixes, most involving various off-unplug-plug-on sequences. No luck, but I might have been wrong in some aspect.
Any brief how-tos, similar experiences, enlightenment would be appreciated greatly. Also I am thinking I have to phone hughesnet to see if they can fix from their end. Might they be of use? What about buying a new (different) router?
My ignorance is compounded by my inability to differentiate a router and a bridge and an access point. Do I need two pieces of equipment? It worked so very well for so long I took our system for granted! [sigh] By the way, though I was hoping to network the computers to a snazzy new printer, there hasn't been any networking among the three, just internet access.
Thanks for any help.
